The Artisans involved in the house renovations

Álvaro de Castro Araújo Cardoso Pereira Ferraz, 3rd Viscount of Castelões (1859-1953). An Engineering Graduate, Álvaro became one of the greatest Portuguese railway construction specialists. He published four books of poems.

History of the Building

Located on Rua Álvaro Castelões nº 49, in the immediate vicinity of the old medieval town walled perimeter, current Historic City Centre, the original construction can date back to the 16th and 17th centuries and was rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake.

Bearing resemblance to what occurred in Lisbon, the downtown area of Setúbal suffered significant damage, aggravated by the tsunami and subsequent fires.

According to Parochial Information concerning the consequences of the aforementioned earthquake, and archaeological findings, it is known that Rua dos Caldeireiros burned down along with other nearby streets.
